The Emergency Response Team (ERT) of Harita Nickel performed the Cakalele dance at Gala Dinner of the 1st Sumatra Fire and Rescue Challenge (SFRC) held at Hotel Saka PT Bukit Asam Tbk, Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra, on Sunday (18/2/2023) evening.
As the one and only representative from East Indonesia, Harita Nickel deployed 8 trained ERT personnel from each of its business units to handle emergency response. The audience was mesmerized by the captivating Cakalele dance performance, set to music and met with enthusiastic cheers.

Harita Nickel's ERT Manager, Nofrelland, stated that their participation in the competition organized by the Emergency Response Association in the Mining and Energy Sector (Pertapindo) aimed not only to win but also to introduce the company that consistently values local wisdom and upholds Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) standards in all operational activities.

"Cakalele is a war dance to welcome a victory. We came from North Maluku to Sumatra to win. However, our main victory is our effort to maintain Occupational Health and Safety at work on Obi Island, which also needs to be witnessed by a wider audience, one of them through participation in this competition," he expressed enthusiastically.

Additionally, Nofrel mentioned that Harita Nickel's ERT is prepared to compete against 14 other Sumatra teams across four categories: firefighting rescue, water rescue, traffic accident response, and agility tests for firefighting teams. They will also undergo a written competency test.

Nofrel emphasized that SFRC is an opportunity to test the team's competence, as well as to update their knowledge and emergency response skills among ERT practitioners.

Harita Nickel aims to improve its employees' Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) skills through participation. The company's dedication to OHS is evident in its achievement of ISO 45001:2018 certification in December 2023. This certification underscores Harita Nickel's proactive efforts to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for all employees.

Thrilling Atmosphere as Cakalele Dance Resonates in the Competition Arena of Harita Nickel's Emergency Response Team in Sumatra

The development of digital technology has brought significant changes to human civilization. Various innovations continue to emerge, including electronic sports, also known as e-sports. At present, e-sports is not only for entertainment, but has also become a prestigious competitive arena. It has even developed into a professional sports branch, competing internationally at various levels.
The phenomenon of e-sports fever has also taken place at the Obi Site, Harita Nickel. One of the most popular games among Harita employees is Mobile Legends. This online game is played via cell phones by 10 players divided into 2 teams. The two teams, each consisting of 5 members, compete in strategy and agility. Good coordination, effective communication, and precise decision-making are necessary to win. These are also essential in our work, where good teamwork is the key to success.

As a manifestation of the company's concern for employees' leisure activities, the company held a Mobile Legend competition during the Independence Day celebration in July-August 2023. This activity received an enthusiastic response from employees. E-sports enthusiasts flocked to enliven the competition held at each business unit.

It didn't stop there. The competition continued between business units, packaged as the Harita Nickel 2023 Olympics. The champions from each business unit, including the e-sports event, then competed in the Olympics to become the best team across the entire Obi site.

In addition to being a recreational event, this Olympics also serves as a means of strengthening relationships among employees and fostering camaraderie among fellow enthusiasts. Here, the people of Harita mingle without barriers between departments, business units, and even positions. They all become a unified part of Harita Nickel, an integrated mining and downstream group of companies operating on Obi Island.

As a company that prioritizes innovation and employee well-being, Harita Nickel has set a true example that recreational activities such as the Mobile Legends e-sports competition can have a positive impact on the sustainability of the company's operations.

Employees, who are a vital asset to the company, are not only expected to work for the bottom line but are also given space to express themselves and socialize in their work environment. When employees feel comfortable and have a sense of family in the workplace, productivity inevitably increases.

Harita Nickel provides various facilities for the comfort of its employees. These include Internet access, sports facilities, and entertainment, all of which are provided free of charge to employees. For example, with Internet access, Harita employees who enjoy e-sports can spend their free time playing Mobile Legends. The same goes for physical sports enthusiasts, who can indulge in their hobbies while exercising.

Harita Nickel's initiative to provide recreational space for employees proves that success is not only measured in numbers but also in the spirit and camaraderie that continues to grow. Innovation is found not only in the products and technologies produced but also in the daily lives of employees.

Ultimately, it can be said that behind Harita Nickel's success story as a pioneer in implementing HPAL technology in the homeland, there are efforts made by the company. Namely, treating employees as key assets by making them part of the company's strategic plans.

Holding an e-sports competition: Harita Nickel provides recreational space for employees

The celebration of the 78th Indonesian Independence Day at the Obi Site was successfully held in August 2023. Each business unit celebrated by organizing various competitions. Unlike previous years, this year's independence commemoration festivities included a business unit competition packaged into an Olympic event, dubbed the Harita Nickel Olympics. The purpose of this competition is to not only determine a winner but to also foster a sense of community.
The Harita Team is invited to reflect on notable events from the Indonesian Independence Day festivities, including unique, futuristic, humorous, and sacred moments. Additionally, it is important to consider what lessons can be learned from these experiences.

Take a look and explore the preservation of a traditional sport, Sepak Takraw, which is uncommon in major cities. Watching the sport played at the Obi Site, as seen at PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL), provides a traditional sports experience. The game involves players playing with a rattan ball using their head, chest, and feet. Additionally, spectators can enjoy acrobatic movements like the somersault smash.

Building e-Sport-style Teamwork

One of the e-sports being contested is Mobile Legends. This online game is played on mobile by 10 players divided into 2 teams. The two teams, each consisting of 5 personnel, compete in strategy and agility. To win the games, good coordination, effective communication, and sound decision-making are required. These are also what we need at work, where good teamwork is the key to success.

Carnival as a Unity Event:

Celebrating Independence Day, PT Trimegah Bangun Persada (TBP) hosted entertaining competitions packaged in the Independence Carnival to make the festivities more. The Harita company held a variety of departmental competitions including costume contests, chants, tug-of-war, sack races, balloon dances, and cracker-eating contests. The objective was for all team members to return to work with a renewed perspective and improved cohesion.

Freedom to innovate

The CEO of PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk, Roy A. Arfandy, said that the company's outstanding achievements would not have been possible without the support of its employees. Therefore, on behalf of the company, he expressed special appreciation to each individual who contributed through innovation and hard work. This was conveyed during the commemoration ceremony of the 78th Indonesian Independence Day at the office yard of 909 HPL on August 17, 2023.

"Through the nickel downstream industry on Obi Island, we will continue to make progress towards a better Indonesia. Certainly, the role of the young generation here will be crucial in realizing these aspirations," said Roy.

The Vibrant Celebration of the 78th Indonesian Independence Day Towards the Harita Nickel Olympics

Ngibi art performance is once again held in Soligi Village, one of the villages within the operational circle of Harita Nickel in Obi Island. This annual event serves as a platform to preserve traditions and at the same time knit togetherness among residents.
As in previous years, this year's Ngibi art performance takes place during the celebration of Eid al-Adha, precisely on Friday night (June 30, 2023), a day after the predominantly Muslim community of Soligi Village commemorates the Feast of Sacrifice.

This year's event can be considered more festive. This is because, in addition to showcasing the Ngibi dance, there were also competitions held for the Cungka dance and Pencak Silat martial arts. The participants were local children, from those in elementary school to high school.

Not only the competition participants, but also the residents who wanted to showcase their skills in dance and martial arts were allowed to perform in the center of the arena, which was surrounded by hundreds of people of various ages.

John Sri Cay Simbolon, the Community Relations Superintendent of Harita Nickel, stated that the company's support for the Ngibi art exhibition in Soligi Village is part of the Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM) in the social-cultural aspect.

He said that art as an expression of culture and community wisdom needs to be preserved. Through the Ngibi art performance, he hopes to be a reminder for the younger generation to preserve the traditions that have been inherited by their ancestors.
"When Soligi's children leave their village to pursue their dreams, whether continuing their education or working in a company, wherever they are, they must uphold the traditional values that have been inherited by their ancestors," John explained.
Furthermore, he said that Soligi Village children are the future hope for development in their region in the future. In addition to introducing tradition, Harita Nickel also supports access to quality education for children on Obi Island.
"This Ngibi art performance is also one of our means to stay in touch with residents in a family atmosphere," he said.

The Origin of Ngibi Traditional Dance

Ngibi is not just mere entertainment; it holds a profound meaning for the people of Soligi Village.

Hardin, the Vice Chairman of the Village Consultative Body (BPD) of Soligi Village, explained the origins of Ngibi, which has been a long-standing tradition in their community. According to him, the Ngibi dance is a tradition of the Buton people in Southeast Sulawesi. The majority of the ancestors of the Soligi residents come from Buton. Besides Soligi, the Buton tribe also inhabits other villages on Obi Island.

In addition to the Ngibi dance, the performance that night also featured the Cungka dance accompanied by traditional musical instruments such as large and small gongs, as well as drums. According to the traditional literature of the Buton people, the Cungka dance, performed by female dancers, symbolizes the journey of human life from the womb.

The Cungka dance is then followed by the Ngibi dance, performed in pairs, as an expression of joy for the journey of human life from water to the infusion of the soul into a lump of flesh. In the Ngibi dance, male dancers are not allowed to touch the female dancers as a form of respect for the significant role that women play in life.

Originally, the Ngibi dance was performed after bountiful harvests as an expression of gratitude. However, over time, this art form has also been showcased in various other events, such as wedding ceremonies and community gatherings.

To preserve this tradition, in recent years, Harita Nickel and the local village administration have organized Ngibi art exhibitions involving the entire community of Soligi Village. For the past two years, the event has been held after Eid al-Adha, while the previous year it was held after Eid al-Fitr.

"We are very grateful to Harita for supporting the people of Soligi in preserving their ancestral traditions," explained Hardin, a sentiment that was also affirmed by Wahyudin Hamami, the Secretary of Soligi Village, who was present at the evening performance.

Ngibi Art Performance: Preserving Tradition, Knitting Togetherness among Soligi Villagers

Harita Nickel fellow readers may be familiar with Soya-Soya dance. This dance is often found among Obi Island community, South Halmahera, North Maluku. For example, in welcoming regent or other honored guests who visit residents. Soya-Soya Dance also often appears in various activities held by Harita Nickel.
So what does Soya-Soya Dance mean to the local community and where did it come from? Check it out to the end!
North Maluku is one of the provinces in Indonesia that has abundant natural resources. Spices from this province became one of the treasures hunted by colonizers in the past, especially for cloves and nutmeg. The Portuguese even occupied North Maluku Province to monopolize the spice trade.
Apart from its rich natural resources, the province nicknamed Moloku Kie Raha is also known for its culture. Soya-Soya dance is one of North Maluku's traditional cultures that is quite popular among local people and tourists.
Soya-Soya dance is a war-dance that is part of the traditional cultural heritage of North Maluku. This dance is generally performed by male dancers who wear costumes similar to ancient sultanate soldiers. The number of dancing personnel is 3 or more people with an odd count.
This dance is very popular in Ternate, North Maluku and is often an important part of various events including welcoming VIP guests, traditional ceremonies, art performances and cultural festivals.

Origin of Soya-Soya Dance

Based on historical records, Soya-Soya Dance was originally used to raise the morale of Ternate Sultanate soldiers when storming Fort Nostra Senora Del Rosario (Kastela Fort) in Ternate which was occupied by the Portuguese on February 25, 1570.
The invasion was led by Sultan Baabullah with an aim to retrieve his father's mortal remains, Sultan Khairun, who was killed by Portuguese soldiers. In its later days, the raid turned into a revival of Kayoa people's struggle against Portuguese invaders at the end of 16th century.
As a tribute to this heroic event, Ternate Sultanate artists then developed Soya-soya Dance as one of the dances that reflects a spirit of courage and past glory that must be passed on to future generations.
If traced from its history, Soya-soya Dance is not only part of Ternate Sultanate culture but also a reflection of Kayoa people's struggle history, in South Halmahera Regency. The Ternate Sultanate warriors who initially invaded the Portuguese to retrieve the remains of Sultan Khairun, evolved into a resistance to repel the invaders.
Soya-Soya dance is also part of North Maluku culture in general. Not only in Ternate City or South Halmahera Regency, even children in villages in North Maluku have been taught Soya-Soya dance since they were young. Now, the dance is even taught back in elementary school.

Meaning of Soya-Soya Dance

The word Soya-Soya means "unyielding". Soya-Soya Dance is a traditional dance with distinctive movements and depicts attacking, evading, and defending movements as in war. In each movement, dancers portray an unyielding spirit and determination to defend their territory and culture.
In general, this dance is performed in groups with a minimum of 3 people and a maximum of unlimited as long as it is still an odd number. This number indicates that the odd number of troops will turn into an even number when added by a commander or troop leader.
Soya-Soya dancers usually wear white clothes with a colorful skirt-like connection cloth and a yellow headband as a symbol of a warrior. Accessories include a shield (salawaku) and a bamboo sword decorated with red, yellow and green palm leaves (ngana-ngana). It is accompanied by music from tifa (drum), saragai (gong), and tawa-tawa.
Soya-soya dance was originally performed as a way to honor the heroes' struggle to repel invaders who had long controlled their territory. However, at present, this dance also has an important meaning as an expression of community appreciation for the warriors who have worked hard to defend their homeland.
In addition, Soya-soya Dance is also a means to introduce local history and culture to the younger generation and the wider community. Through this dance, we are able to convey and appreciate the values of courage, unity, and unyielding spirit contained in local history and culture.

Harita Nickel Gelar Roadshow Rekrutmen untuk Serap Tenaga Kerja Lokal

Ternate, a city located in North Maluku Province, covers an area of 5,795.4 km². It once served as the temporary capital of North Maluku from 1999 until 2010, before the capital officially moved to Sofifi in the Tidore Islands on August 4th, 2010.
Despite its size, Ternate is rich in history. From the legacy of the Sultanate to the island’s significance in the spice trade, Ternate has also been shaped by the frequent eruptions of Mount Gamalama, an active volcano that continues to loom large over the island.

Historical records show that Mount Gamalama has erupted several times over the centuries, with one of the most significant eruptions occurring in 1673, when lava flowed all the way to the coastline. Evidence of this can still be seen today in the Batu Angus area, located in Kulaba Village on the western side of Ternate. Batu Angus, which translates as “burnt rock,” is now a popular tourist attraction and a designated Geo Park.

The area is characterised by vast stretches of blackened rock, which appear scorched and reach from the base of Mount Gamalama down to the sea, covering an area of roughly 17 hectares. Batu Angus has become a favourite destination not only for local tourists but also for international visitors, who consider it a must-see when travelling to Ternate.

For those looking to explore Batu Angus, it’s a short 10-kilometre journey from the city centre, easily accessible by car or motorbike. Entry fees are affordable, with visitors on foot paying around 7,000 rupiah, while cars are charged between 14,000 and 20,000 rupiah.

In recent years, the local government has made efforts to enhance the site’s appeal by improving infrastructure such as roads and gazebos. However, visitors have expressed a desire for more facilities, particularly food stalls, as there are currently none available in the area, meaning tourists need to bring their own refreshments.

“The views here at Batu Angus are stunning, with the black rocks forming pyramid-like structures, interspersed with small green trees. It’s truly breathtaking, especially with Mount Gamalama in the background and the sea nearby,” said Maya, a recent visitor. “But it would be great if there were some food stalls, as there’s nowhere to get a meal.”

Aldi Marto, who works at the Batu Angus site, mentioned that the area is consistently busy with tourists. “We see hundreds of visitors every day, whether it’s a weekend or a weekday,” he said.

Looking ahead, the Ternate City Government has ambitious plans for the area. Rustam Mahli, Head of the City’s Tourism Office, explained that by 2023, Batu Angus will be officially designated as a Geo Tourism site. This project is being developed in collaboration with Ternate’s Regional Research and Development Agency (Balitbangda) and the North Maluku Geology Experts Association.

In addition to this designation, several new facilities are planned for the site, including food stalls, improved lighting, better roads leading to the beach, and a geo-tourism museum. “These developments will allow visitors to enjoy Batu Angus well into the evening, while also contributing to the region’s economic growth,” Rustam added.

The Tourism Office has also set up Tourism Awareness Groups (Pokdarwis) in each district with tourist attractions, helping to promote and manage these sites, with the aim of boosting the local economy and enhancing the overall visitor experience in Ternate.

Mala-Mala, located in South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, is an uninhabited island that is home to stunning natural beauty. An expanse of white sand and clear, blue waters are the main attractions on this island, which is located close to a nickel mining area.

Mala-Mala Island can be reached by speedboat, which takes about 20 minutes from Kawasi Village on Obi Island—the site of one of Indonesia's first nickel downstream industries, responsible for the production of raw materials for electric vehicle batteries. Despite its proximity to the mining area, Mala-Mala's ecosystem remains remarkably well-preserved.

The views above the water are beautiful, but Mala-Mala also offers stunning underwater scenery – a sight that’s not to be missed. With its wealth of marine biodiversity, it's little wonder that this island is a popular snorkeling and diving spot for visitors who enjoy water sports. Those vacationing on Mala-Mala often bring fishing rods to catch the fish that live around the island, so they can enjoy fresh seafood.

The island’s remote location means it is relatively untouched by people. The most regular visitors to Mala-Mala are employees of the mining companies operating on Obi Island – the short distance makes the island a popular destination for unwinding on work days.

On this occasion, dozens of Harita Nickel employees are preparing to visit Mala-Mala Island. Equipped with various equipment, prepared the day before, the group departs by speedboat from Kawasi Village. Throughout the journey to Mala-Mala, they are treated to a rolling vista of stunning natural scenery. The low tide made the journey more comfortable, without the turbulence of waves that can cause motion sickness.

Upon arrival at Mala-Mala Island, the group are greeted by swaying coconut trees, neatly lined up along the shoreline. Along the coast, dozens, if not hundreds, of bilolo – hermit crabs – roam about in their various shell shapes. Despite the scorching heat, the gentle waves and breeze off the coast of Mala-Mala Island provide a calming atmosphere.

As soon as the Harita Nickel employees set foot on Mala-Mala Island, they begin to engage in their own activities; some simply splash around on the shore, while others swim, fish, or even break out the snorkeling gear they’ve brought for exploring the surrounding area.

The island's lush, green hills further enhance the stunning views. This scene is perfect for photography enthusiasts, thanks to its Instagram-worthy scenery. Mala-Mala is an uninhabited island, giving it a distinctly quiet feel; there are no permanent residents on the island. Therefore, anyone interested in visiting should bring their own supplies.

This is exactly what dozens of Harita Nickel employees who were vacationing on Mala-Mala Island did. They brought back dozens of large, fresh fish caught from Kawasi Village. Make no mistake, even though Kawasi is located in an industrial extraction area, this doesn't affect the catch of the local fishermen.

They then seasoned and grilled the fresh fish and made it into food for lunch. Harita Nickel employees had fun all day on this uninhabited island. “Awesome Kawasi fish!” said Devina, one of the doctors at Harita Nickel who joined the excursion to Mala-mala Island that day.

Devina revealed it was her first time visiting Mala-Mala Island, since deciding to pursue a career at Harita Nickel. She was amazed by the natural scenery on this uninhabited island. For Devina, Mala-Mala Island was like a treasure trove in the desert. She noted that being located near a mining area hasn’t polluted the island's ecosystem.
"I'm truly amazed. I never thought there would be such a beautiful island near a mining area," said Devina, who was impressed by the natural beauty of Mala-Mala Island. "The island is still pristine, with crystal clear waters, allowing us to easily see the coral reefs and colorful fish," she added.
Before they knew it, their relaxing time on the island was coming to an end. At around 3 p.m., the group began packing up their belongings and loading their trash back into the boat. This way, Mala-Mala Island's ecosystem will be preserved and they can enjoy it again on their next vacation.*

The Charm of Mala-Mala, an Uninhabited Island in the Downstream Region

God gave us Ternate Island as a gift, and it is a place of endless beauty. This little sanctuary in North Maluku Province is usually a favorite among travelers because of the fascinating scenery that surrounds it. Additionally, the main magnet for drawing attention is the coastal region. It makes sense that the local administration uses the phrase "Bahari Berkesan" as evidence of Ternate Island's stunning beaches and sea.
A well-known beach in the north is frequently visited to enjoy its varied beauty. A beach that is close to the city center, accessible, and nearby is also available. The beach in Ternate City is the preferred getaway location for HARITA staff. Visitors will create enduring memories that will be hard to forget there. Here are some options for beaches:

Sulamadaha

Sulamadaha Beach is 12 kilometers, or 40 minutes by motorized vehicle, from Ternate City's center. The accessible paths are also rather simple to navigate. Until they reach the entrance of Sulamadaha Beach, they remain on Jalan Batu Angus, which is on the edge of Ternate Island. Visitors will be amazed by the sight of the serene beach and Hiri Island just across from it when they arrive.

Who would have thought, it turns out that Sulamadaha Beach has a surprise if visitors are willing to dig deeper. A little cove with a magnificent view is called Hol Sumadha. The ocean is so clear that visitors may see the coral reefs there without goggles. All varieties of fish were overrunning the reefs. Hol Sulamadaha is a beautiful place for boating, swimming, and snorkeling.

Jikomalamo

From Sulamadaha Beach, visitors can experience the equally stunning view by driving for ten minutes. Jikomalamo Beach is a tourist favorite since it is more easily accessible by any means of transportation. The holiday accommodations are also rather extensive. Due to the enormous number of people who enjoy diving and riding jet skis there, Jikomalamo Beach is an excellent spot to go. Visitors can also rent a variety of necessary tools.

On this beach, swimming is allowed. Jikomalamo Beach's white sand is a characteristic that enhances its natural beauty. Jikomalamo Beach is the ideal location if you want to eat delicious food in the fresh air. Discover the Beach Tourism of Ternate

A green and sturdy gate stands in the middle of the plantation forest in the east of Bacan Island. It reads, "Welcome to the Nature Tourism Area, Bibinoi Waterfall KPHP South Halmahera." The welcoming gate notes that this comfortable and shady area is a Production Forest Management Unit (KPHP) under the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
The sound of running water rumbled about 50 meters inward, past an unattended empty building. The sound of a waterfall in the distance adds to the cool atmosphere. A river with a waterfall welcomes all who walk down the path.

"That's not the waterfall, bro, we still have to walk downhill," said Ari, a HARITA employee who led the relaxing weekend trip at the end of February (26/2).

The river with clear and cold water was passed and returned along the path that went uphill, then downhill until it arrived at a larger river. Mountain rocks of varying sizes and shapes adorn the river's clear green water. The sound of water falling from a height of 20 meters greeted him cheerfully.

Every visitor enjoys the waterfall and bathing beneath it. At first, the body was enveloped in a cold sensation. However, after entering and soaking, it feels more delightful and comfortable. The sensation of falling water and the sensation of it piercing your skin as if it were being massaged becomes the main attraction.

Aside from the river being clean and free of garbage, the excitement of visiting the Bibinoi waterfall is that it is also very quiet for visitors. This location is rarely visited so that visitors can enjoy the Creator's gift in peace on Bacan Island. Another advantage is that it is not difficult to get to.

The Bibinoi waterfall was visited for the first time by two middle-aged local tourists and an accompanying youth. They are descended from Bacan Islanders who live in Amasing, Labuha, and South Halmahera.

"I was born and raised in Bacan for more than 50 years, but this is my first visit." "I'm curious to hear what people have to say," said Kasman, who arrived at precisely noon local time.

The Bibinoi Waterfall can be found in Bibinoi Village, Bacan District, Middle East, Halsel. Because the road is not always smooth, you must use a private vehicle such as a motorcycle or sports utility vehicle to reach this waterfall. Travel time from Labuha, South Sulawesi's capital can take more than an hour.

Visitors must take a route to Babang Harbor from Labuha, then turn right or southeast when they arrive. If you arrive at Bibinoi Village without using your phone's map app, you should ask the locals for directions, as there are no signs or directions to this tourist attraction.

It is best to invite friends or relatives who have previously attended. Without a guide, you risk getting lost or going the wrong way in remote locations. The lush and tall rows of copra or coconut plants will keep the eyes entertained on the way to the Bibinoi forest area.

The road became less friendly as we approached the Bibinoi forest area. To get to the waterfall, the crushed asphalt must be passed through. Not only that but three small rivers must be crossed without a bridge, although they are not deep and the water is quite clear.

As a result, visitors should avoid visiting during the rainy season and instead visit in the morning when the weather is sunny. There is no food or drink vendors at the waterfall, so bring your own. Visitors who are fortunate enough can ask locals to pick coconuts for them to eat on the spot. After bathing in the waterfall, the freshness of coconut water will round out the experience.
